Finally Upgraded To Wordpress 2.6
I have been hesitant about upgrading from Wordpress 2.2 to 2.6 for a long time, as I have worked extremely hard on creating my own design/theme and setting up Plugins etc. I really did not want to lose all that hard work.
But then, whilst browsing the internet I noticed a post about upgrading Wordpress… and in the post it said that there is no need to worry about themes breaking, as well designed themes should work with the latest versions perfectly.
So, I decided to brave it and upgrade… And after 2 hours (Firewall issues meant I was unable to FTP or access my sites Control Panel, which was eventually fixed with a few talks with my hosting support staff) I managed to upgrade without a hitch.
There was however, one slight flaw in the upgrade process… All of my category names disappeared… And since there was no category name, I could not click them in the Wordpress Dashboard to give them a name. Which meant deleting the “Invisible” categories, creating them again, then going through all of my posts and setting their categories again (Which took a few Google searches to figure out which post belonged to which category, and which category stub it used for its permalink).
However, after all that, the upgrade was a complete success and I urge anyone to do it if they, like me, have been holding off on the basis that it may break their theme.
I have to say, however, that I am not sure if I like the new Dashboard design…
Anyway, enough about that, because there is something else I wanted to say. I finally grabbed myself a Twitter account and added a Twitter plugin to my blog, so you can now see my Micro-Blogs in the sidebar to the right
I also found a php script that posts messages to a twitter account, and came up with a quick “Post to twitter” form that appears under my “Latest Tweet” if I am logged in as an admin, mwuahaha!
That’s about it for now, so until next time!
