About 2 weeks ago I noticed a problem when I turned on my laptop. It wanted to run CHKDSK, but when it did it just kept repeating the following line, over and over again.
Inserting an index entry into index $0 of file 25
So I ended up rebooting my laptop and skipping CHKDSK the next time, and I have been doing that ever since.
However, today when I tried to install Age Of Conan (Yes, I know, shame on me!) it was complaining about DirectX and wanted me to install the latest version. So I tried, but installation kept failing… Turns out, I couldn’t delete or modify ANY files on my hard drive.
I did a bit of Google searching, and the CHKDSK error I had been receiving was the problem.
Turns out, just rebooting and letting CHKDSK do it’s thing fixed it. CHKDSK did eventually break out of the looping error message after about 20 minutes and then proceeded to run it’s course as normal, before rebooting my laptop and giving me my freedom back!
Hurrah!
