I recently received an email from Brian, Founder of Box.net, informing me of his new online storage facility that boasts features galore and the ability to use it on your shiny new Apple iPhone.
Brian kindly invited me to demo his application and as such, I am writing this review.
Box.net is a feature rich online storage application that allows users to upload and share up to 1GB of files absolutely free, or if you would like to unlock some of it’s extra business features for a small monthly fee, up to 15GB including file collaboration facilities!
Upon logging into Box.net your faced with an extremely clean and user friendly, AJAX orientated user interface. Within seconds of logging in I had uploaded a couple of my favourite photos from my Download Festival trip and was able to share them with others without any hassle whatsoever.
A very snazzy feature of Box.net is it’s ability to provide an RSS feed for your files, so people know when you have uploaded something new, and can access it straight away. Upgraded accounts can also secure they’re files with password protection.
Business users also have access to a feature called Workgroups, which allow the user to setup “Sub Users” which are restricted to accessing specific areas of your online storage. This allows for moderated user collaboration and/or sharing.
The really nifty part about this application, is you can then access your files through your Apple iPhone! The creators of Box.net have setup a simplified (But attractive!) user interface for iPhone users to access their online files. Resembling the iPod’s menu system, i-Box will make the end user feel right at home when accessing their files.
Overall I think this application will become an extremely valuable tool for the iPhone community and I wish Brian and his team every success in the future.
If you have any comments, as always, please feel free to send them in.

Thanks for the review!

Hi there,
Unfortunately I don’t have an iPhone to test it with as I am in the UK.
I made this review from both the original Web version, and the iPhone demo version that can also be accessed via standard browsers from http://i.box.net

I never heard of Box.net but I found the information on their website fascinating. I see that any browser enabled phone can access Box but are the apps only available through IPhone and Blackberry? With more mobiles using the S-Class interface I wonder if this is compatible too?
